Meet Sydney Riley, Our Design Apprentice

Behind every studio is a kick-ass team. At Santoro Design, we bring designers, copywriters, developers, and strategists to the fold of every new project and endeavor. It’s why every project is not only well thought-out and executed from start to finish, but also fun and inspiring.

This couldn’t be more true about our first-ever intern, Sydney Riley! Hailing from North Carolina, Sydney’s been hitting the ground running with a ton of different client and internal projects. A self-trained designer, Sydney’s work ethic and eagerness to learn has been a driving motivation for the rest of us. For this new segment, we’re sitting down with her for some light Q&A.

Tell us a little about yourself, and how you got into design?

I have only been designing for less than a year. I actually went to college for professional chemistry from 2013 – 2018 and senior year decided it wasn’t for me, so I dropped out. I then worked as an aesthetician for a few years, which was not my passion. In May 2020 my brother Devon suggested I try Adobe Illustrator because I was getting discouraged about not being able to draw. I started designing some vector art and since then I knew graphic design was what I wanted to do.

Hobbies?

Some of my hobbies include gaming, reading, archery, hiking, playing with my cats, watching movies, cooking, creating art, and spending time with my friends and family.

What do you like about the work you’re doing at Santoro Design so far?

I have already learned so much and I feel like a real graphic designer since Chris is having me do real client work. Chris is also a really great mentor and makes me feel like I’m good enough for this work even though I’m so new to graphic design.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years I’d like to be a very confident graphic designer and to have a specific style with my art. I would also like to be living closer to my friends and family and be surrounded by my three cats!
